JOWAI, Jan 22: The FKJGP-Khliehriat Circle took swift action on Wednesday following multiple public complaints about the presence of an unauthorised street vendor operating within the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office in East Jaintia Hills.
Upon inquiry, it was discovered that the vendor did not possess the necessary permission from the DC office to operate in the compound. When asked to provide a valid trading licence, the vendor failed to produce any document confirming official approval. Further investigation revealed that the vendor had been operating illegally without proper authorisation. Consequently, the FKJGP-Khliehriat Circle decided to evict the vendor from the compound.
On the sidelines, the organisation expressed serious concern and disappointment, questioning how such unauthorised activity was allowed to take place within the premises of the DC’s office. It emphasised that local traders are required to follow due process, including obtaining the appropriate permissions or tenders, before setting up businesses in such locations. They criticised the lack of oversight that permitted the vendor to operate without approval and stressed the importance of applying the law equally to all.
