NONGPOH, Jan 25: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday revealed the state government’s plans to enhance connectivity across all Community and Rural Development (C&RD) Blocks through optical fiber internet, aiming to modernise administrative functions and improve service delivery, especially in remote areas.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Mawhati C&RD Block at Umsohlait, a momentous occasion fulfilling a long-standing aspiration of the people of Mawhati.
The inaugural programme was attended by C&RD AT Mondal, Mawhati MLA Charles Marngar, Umsning MLA Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh, Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, along with senior officials, community leaders, and local residents.
In his address, the chief minister extended gratitude to God for enabling the realisation of the Mawhati C&RD Block and commended Minister AT Mondal and MLA Charles Marngar for their tireless efforts and sacrifices.
Highlighting the state government’s broader vision, Sangma stressed the importance of bringing governance closer to rural communities, ensuring that the people of the state have easier access to government schemes and benefits.
Conrad said the plan to introduce optical fiber connectivity across all C&RD Blocks is expected to significantly improve governance, facilitate digital services, and bridge the gap between rural and urban areas.
It may be mentioned that the realisation of Mawhati C&RD Block was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the Mawhati legislator.
In his address, Marngar expressed immense happiness, calling the realisation of the Mawhati C&RD Block a significant milestone for the constituency.
He praised the chief minister for his commitment to development, emphasising that the new block would streamline administrative processes, uplift socio-economic conditions, and accelerate overall progress in the region.
Marngar credited his association with the National People’s Party (NPP) as a turning point, stating that without the state government’s leadership, such progress would not have been possible.
Addressing criticism over his decision to align with the NPP, he reiterated that his priority remains the welfare of the people.
