NEW DELHI: The first meeting of the AICC’s screening committee to be held on Thursday will take up Tura seat leaving discussion on high profile Shillong seat for a later date

Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma is already in the national capital. The MPCC chief D D Lapang will arrive here on Wednesday. The all powerful AICC General Secretary Luizinho Faleiro will be there in the capital for the meeting.

AICC sources said that the meeting will discuss on Tura seat where the choice has been zeroed on between Zenith Sangma, Minister for Excise (brother of Chief Minister) and Daryl William Cheran Momin, the grandson of Meghalaya’s first Chief Minister Captain Williamson Sangma.

The emergence of Government Chief Whip Ronnie Lyngdoh in the race for the ticket has forced the screening committee to defer discussion on Shillong seat, sources said here.

Earlier, the MPCC working president Deborah C Marak had submitted a list of ticket aspirants to the AICC before Ronnie joined the fray.

Besides Ronnie and Vincent H Pala and, the sitting MP, others who have applied for the party ticket for the Shillong seat are former Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope and Congress member John F Kharshiing. Former MPCC president OL Nongtdu who was in the race initially withdrew due to his ill health. Meanwhile, the AICC Secretary-in charge of Meghalaya Ms Vijay Laxmi Sadho visited the state and consulted all about the party’s choice. The AICC observer has already submitted the report on the controversial issue.
