Convergence integral to success of Govt programmes

By Our Special Correspondent

Shillong: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Tuesday announced that Rs 50 lakh would be allocated for each of the seven blocks to bring about better convergence.

”The government will put Rs 50 lakh in each Block to achieve the convergence of various rural developmental activities,” Dr Sangma said while inaugurating the office of the State Rural Employment Society (SRES).

Pointing out that roads constructed under the MNREGS were not all weather roads, the Chief minister said through a process of convergence, henceforth all roads constructed under the flagship programme would be linked and converted to all-weather roads of 2.5 to 3 kms each which would add up to about 80-85 Km a year.

“In this way the assets created vide the MNREGS would become productive assets for the people and State,” the Chief Minister said.

“Often our programmes have no social relevance, hence people do not want to participate in them. Fish ponds and agricultural canals which have been created by rural workers should ultimately become productive assets,” Dr Sangma said.
