TURA, Feb 19: In what could turn into a worrying situation, the Achik State People’s Front (ASPF) Garobadha regional unit has filed a police complaint over what they termed were illegal settlers, allegedly from Bangladesh and neighbouring Assam in the village of Tiksali under Garobadha OGC limits in SWGH.
The village falls close to the border of Assam.
In the FIR filed on Wednesday, the ASPF asserted that these settlers were not only present within the village under Meghalaya without valid documentation but their presence has resulted in disruptions in the local community and an increase in anti social activities.
“They have been causing numerous problems including the theft of goods, cattle and chicken from the local population present there. We seek an investigation into the matter so that those illegally settled can be ousted and legal action taken,” said the FIR by the organisation.
