SHILLONG, March 3: The much-anticipated new Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang is nearing completion with Speaker Thomas A Sangma confirming on Monday that construction has reached an advanced stage. “Work on the interiors of the main hall is set to begin soon,” he stated.
Despite minor setbacks, particularly concerning the installation of the dome, Sangma expressed confidence that the shift to the new building will happen as planned. “The dome installation required additional time, temporarily affecting interior work due to space constraints. However, with the topmost spire almost in place, those issues have largely been resolved,” he said.
The new Assembly building, envisioned as a modern and spacious legislative house, is expected to provide state-of-the-art facilities for Meghalaya’s lawmakers. The government is confident that the new building will be ready before the autumn session of the Assembly.
