SHILLONG, March 7: The NPP on Friday asked the VPP to respect the mandate given by the people in the JHADC.
“We have accepted the mandate given by the people in KHADC. The VPP should also do the same as there is no point in raising questions on the poll,” NPP MLA from Jowai, Wailadmiki Shylla said.
“This is not the first JHADC elections. It is not right to raise doubts. Even in my own constituency, the VPP candidate got 800 votes. I accept the mandate of the people since they have the right to decide whom to vote,” he said.
Shylla questioned how the VPP managed to win eight seats if, according to them, the JHADC elections were not fair.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday dismissed allegations of the recent district council elections being “rigged”, and vehemently defended the integrity of the polls, saying the process was conducted fairly by government officials and not “influenced” by political parties.
Reacting to VPP supremo Ardent Basaiawmoit’s claims that the elections in JHADC were “rigged”, Sangma said, “You have to trust the system. These are officers who worked on their own. We were not there inside the polling station and neither were our party people.”
