SHILLONG, March 13: The state government on Thursday clarified that the Meghalaya Investment Promotion Authority (MIPA) is not responsible for repurposing government land or redeveloping infrastructure in Shillong.
“The responsibility for repurposing government land lies with the concerned departments, such as Urban Affairs, PWD, Forest and Environment, Tourism, and the Power department,” stated K Hynniewta, Ex-Officio Joint Secretary of the Planning, Investment Promotion, and Sustainable Development department, in a rejoinder to a news report published in this paper titled ‘Govt intends to bulldoze people through MIPA, alleges TUR’, published on Thursday.
Flagging misleading information sourced from Thma U Rangli-Juki (TUR), the government said that TUR made “shocking and baseless” allegations against MIPA.
“These allegations are purely fictional and appear to be made with malafide intent,” Hynniewta stated.
The government further clarified that MIPA was established with a well-defined mandate, including promoting the investment ecosystem, improving the ease of doing business, creating a Unified Investment Portal, and generating local employment in alignment with the state government’s vision.
All information regarding MIPA’s functioning is available in the public domain, it said.
Additionally, the government stated that the minutes of an inter-departmental meeting had been misinterpreted, and responsibilities assigned to various government departments were wrongly attributed to MIPA in a “malicious” manner.
