SHILLONG: Forest and Environment Minister Prestone Tynsong has claimed that the 13 pro-ILP pressure groups have agreed to look into a mechanism beyond ILP to tackle the problem of influx.
“During the meeting on January 15 last, the pressure groups had agreed to the proposal made by the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma that they would no longer discuss on the issue ILP but they would look and discuss on other mechanisms to tackle the problem of influx and illegal immigration,” Tynsong said while speaking at a public rally in Mawngap on Wednesday.
The Minister said he was really happy to see the pressure groups showing the commitment and responsibility for the future and overall interest of the indigenous community.
“We cannot support an age-old legislation like ILP to tackle the problem of influx. We need to develop a mechanism which is relevant to this modern world,” Forest and Environment Minister said
