SHILLONG: Jowai Police have begun re-investigation into the alleged fake encounter of Fullmoon Dhar after the Court of the Chief judicial Magistrate, Jowai directed the West Jaintia Hills police to re-investigate into the matter.
West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Herbert Lyngdoh on Friday said, “We are taking necessary action as per the Court’s directive.”
The CJM court issued the directive to the Jowai Police in November last year.
Fullmoon Dhar was shot dead by Jaintia Hills police in 2009 after he along with six other accomplices fled from the Shillong district jail.
However, NGOs accused the State Police of killing Fullmoon Dhar in a fake encounter.
According to Lyngdoh, the police has to recall all case diaries and all such witnesses have to be re-examined, while maintaining that Jowai Police are taking necessary action as directed by the Court.
The directive of the court was due to the follow up action by CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing against the Jowai Police for allegedly killing Fullmoon Dhar in June 2009 in a fake encounter.
On two occasions, the police in Jaintia Hills had closed their inquiries by saying that there was no fake encounter.
However, Kharshiing objected to this and filed a petition before the Court giving proof of a fake encounter.
The petitioner had asked for a CBI inquiry or an investigation by the CID.
However, the CJM instructed the Jowai Superintendent of Police to conduct the investigation.
