SHILLONG, April 23: The Estimates Committee of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, chaired by Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem, held an interactive session with the Committee on Estimates of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly at the Assembly Secretariat’s Conference Hall here on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by Meghalaya MLAs Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar (Mawkyrwat), Adelbert Nongrum (North Shillong), Remington Gabil Momin (Rambrai-Jyrngam), Charles Marngar (Mawhati), and Miani D Shira (Ampati). Also present were Commissioner and Secretary Andrew Simons and Additional Secretary Malthus S Sangma along with officials from both legislative assemblies.
The session began with a felicitation ceremony, where the Meghalaya committee extended a warm welcome to the visiting delegation from Jharkhand, who are currently on a study tour covering Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and Odisha.
In his address, Mayralborn Syiem emphasised the cultural ties between the two states, noting their shared tribal heritage—Meghalaya being home to hill tribes and Jharkhand to tribes of the plains.
He also shared insights into the structural and functional aspects of the Estimates Committee, providing an overview of its roles and responsibilities.
