Naga-Kuki youth body celebrates silver jubilee

SHILLONG, April 27: The All Naga Kuki Catholic Youth Association Shillong (ANKCYAS) marked its silver jubilee with great fervour and gratitude at St. Margaret’s Higher Secondary School, Peachlands, Laitumkhrah. The landmark celebration, commemorating 25 years of unity and fellowship between the Naga and Kuki communities, drew a large gathering of faithful and well-wishers.
The day’s programme began at 9:45 am with a solemn Eucharistic celebration, presided over by Most Rev. Bernard Laloo DD, Auxiliary Bishop of the Shillong Archdiocese. In his homily, Bishop Laloo emphasised the importance of thanksgiving and cultivating a spirit of gratitude, rooted in forgiveness and reconciliation.
The event was also attended by Chairman of Meghalaya Industrial Development Cooperation, James K. Sangma, who served as the chief guest.
In his address, he expressed appreciation for the unity displayed by the Naga and Kuki youth. He remarked on the beauty of Shillong as a shared home for many communities and acknowledged the positive contributions made by such associations to the cultural and social fabric of the state.
Following the Mass, a vibrant cultural programme unfolded, showcasing traditional songs and dances performed by various tribes from Nagaland and Manipur.
In his address, Fr. Thungbemo Paul, Chaplain of ANKCYAS, said, “Given the historical tensions between the Nagas and Kukis, 25 years of togetherness is not just remarkable but a divine blessing,” he said.
