M’laya, Kerala legislators discuss welfare initiatives for marginalised communities

SHILLONG, April 28: The Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly held a meeting with the Sister Committee from the Kerala Legislative Assembly to foster discussions on welfare initiatives, best practices and collaboration opportunities between the two state legislatures.
According to a statement here, the meeting, held at the Annexe Hall, Rilbong, on Monday was chaired by Amlarem MLA Lahkmen Rymbui, who is also the Chairman of the Committee, along with members including Dadenggre MLA Rupa M. Marak and Nongstoin MLA Gabriel Wahlang. They were accompanied by officials from the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat, namely secretary Malthus S. Sangma, under secretary R. Nongsteng and committee officer L. Mynsong.
On the other hand, the Kerala delegation was led by Acting Chairman A. Prabhakaran and comprised members, namely Tirur MLA Kurukkoli Moideen, Puthukkad MLA KK Ramachandran, Aruvikkara MLA G. Stephen, Ernakulam MLA TJ Vinod and Thripunithura MLA K. Babu.
They were accompanied by officials from the Kerala Legislative Assembly Secretariat, viz. under secretary Nanda Kumar R, assistant section officer Anil Kumar GK; assembly attendant Sandhya S. Nair, and reporter grade-i Asha Karunakaran.
The meeting provided a platform for exchanging ideas on advancing the welfare of Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes, with both committees sharing insights into successful schemes, challenges faced, and potential areas for future collaboration.
