SHILLONG, June 8: Making a bold move of venturing into uncharted territories, the UDP has announced its decision to contest next year’s elections to the GHADC.
UDP working president Titosstarwell Chyne on Sunday revealed that party president Metbah Lyngdoh had recently visited the Garo Hills to establish district-level party committees.
Chyne emphasised that the UDP continues to maintain a strong presence in the region, with active leaders and party workers operating at the grassroots level.
“We are confident that we can regain our footing in the Garo Hills and perform well in the upcoming GHADC elections,” Lyngdoh said.
It may be recalled that the NPP has already launched its campaign for the GHADC polls, stating it will seek a fresh mandate based on the performance of the party and the MDA government, which it leads.
With the GHADC elections scheduled for next year, several political parties, including the TMC and the NPP, have begun their preparations. NPP spokesperson Marcuise Marak said the party will also be scouting for new candidates, with a focus on electability.
