Madrid, June 15: Atletico Madrid have identified Liverpool’s Andy Robertson as their top target in the summer transfer window, as they intensify their search for a new left-back following the expected departure of Reinildo Mandava.
According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Scottish international is highly regarded within the Atletico camp and is seen as the “ideal candidate” to bolster their defence ahead of the new season.
The club is prioritising the left-back position and sees Robertson as a crucial addition to Diego Simeone’s evolving squad.
However, prising Robertson away from Anfield is unlikely to be straightforward. Despite the 30-year-old experiencing a dip in form during the 2024–25 campaign — contributing just one assist in 33 appearances — Liverpool still value him as a key senior figure in the dressing room. Nonetheless, with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez reportedly close to a move to Merseyside, Robertson’s role at the club could be set to diminish.
The transfer saga is further complicated by Atletico’s ambitious shortlist, which features other high-profile names such as AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez.
Interestingly, Hernandez is a former product of the Atletico academy and has been linked with a return to the Spanish capital. Yet, reports suggest that Robertson currently tops the list, ahead of the Frenchman. (Agencies)
