SHILLONG, June 28: A newly constructed bus shed in the heart of Police Bazar has become a hangout spot for drug addicts and other miscreants, raising concerns among locals and passersby.
The shed, which was renovated a few months ago, has since turned into a daytime retreat for addicts, while authorities appear to turn a blind eye to the growing menace.
Pedestrians reported that the shed is often fully occupied by addicts who seem to have made it their makeshift home, with little to no intervention from the police.
A few individuals were also seen engaging in inappropriate behaviour inside the shed, using umbrellas to conceal their actions from public view.
“This place is thronged by thousands of tourists, and people including children and the elderly, who walk through here. These individuals create a serious nuisance,” a pedestrian remarked.
They added that such activities should not be allowed, especially in Police Bazar, the city centre of Shillong, and urged the police to take immediate action.
