Jowai, June 30: The West Jaiñtia Boxing Association (WJBA), in collaboration with the Meghalaya Boxing Association (MBA), has announced district-level boxing selection trials aimed at identifying top boxing talent from the region to represent Meghalaya in the upcoming 39th National Games, scheduled to be hosted by the state in 2027.
The selection trials will be held on July 24, 2025, and will take place at two venues on the same day.
Trials for West Jaiñtia Hills will begin at 9:00 AM at Bishop House, Lumbihsyntu, Mihmyntdu, while boxers from East Jaiñtia Hills will compete at 3:00 PM at the East Jaiñtia District Sports Association Indoor Sports Hall, located in Dkhiah East, Khliehriat.
The WJBA and MBA have extended an open call to all aspiring and skilled boxers from both districts to participate in the trials. Participants will compete across multiple weight categories.
For men, the categories include:
47-50kg, 50-55kg, 55-60kg, 60-65kg, 65-70kg, 70-80kg, 80-85kg, 85-90kg, and 95kg,
while the women’s divisions will cover:
45-48kg, 48-51kg, 51-54kg, 54-57kg, 57-60kg, 60-65kg, 65-70kg, 70-75kg, 75-80kg, and 80kg.
Eligible participants must fall within the age group of 17 to 40 years, and are required to bring their original birth certificate, Aadhaar card, and personal boxing kit for the trials.
The official announcement was issued by Wanbait Ksoo, President of the West Jaiñtia Boxing Association, who encouraged local talent to seize this opportunity and compete for a chance to represent Meghalaya on the national stage.
With the National Games returning to the state in 2027, the trials mark a significant step in preparing a strong and competitive boxing contingent.
