SHILLONG, July 1: An academic publication titled ‘Renewing Existence: Pathways to a Sustainable Future’ was on Tuesday released here, offering a collection of interdisciplinary essays and research papers that address pressing global and local challenges in sustainability.
According to a statement here, the book was formally unveiled by Rajya Sabha member WR Kharlukhi during a programme at Synod College, Shillong, as part of its ongoing Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
The event was attended by the college management, faculty, retired teachers, scholars, non-teaching staff and students.
The publication is a major outcome of the International Seminar on ‘Sustainability towards a Renewing Existence’, jointly organised by Synod College and the State Council of Science, Technology & Environment, which brought together scholars, practitioners and policymakers from India and abroad to engage in critical discussions on sustainable development.
“Renewing Existence presents a collection of interdisciplinary essays and research papers addressing some of the most pressing global and local challenges of our time—climate change, ecological conservation, indigenous knowledge systems, renewable energy, sustainable tourism, and urban environmental management. The volume is particularly enriched by contributions that reflect the unique ecological and cultural landscape of Northeast India in general and Meghalaya in particular, while also incorporating comparative and global perspectives,” the statement said.
The editors of the book, Dr. David Arnold Kharchandy and Dr. A. Phidarihun Warjri, emphasised that the publication is not merely a collection of academic writings, but a call to collective responsibility—an invitation to policymakers, educators, students and civil society to engage in transformative, sustainable action.
