Meeting
The Dorbar Shnong Pommura under the Khyriem Syiemship, East Khasi Hills, will hold a local public opinion meeting at 11 am on July 21 at Pommura Dorbar Hall to discuss applications received for the grant of licences for the retail sale of foreign liquor for consumption “off” the premises (wine stores). According to a statement here, the decision was taken during the Dorbar’s Executive Committee meeting held on June 30. In this regard, all residents have been encouraged to attend the meeting and to bring their Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC) for verification purposes while approaching the Dorbar office for further details.

Liquor raids
The Office of the Deputy Commissioner (Excise), East Khasi Hills, in its continued drive against illicit liquor, conducted raids in restaurants/stalls in Shillong and its outskirts in May. According to a statement here, the raids resulted in the seizure of 36.125 litres of illicitly distilled and 33.220 litres of IMFL. A total of four persons have also been arrested under Excise Act.
