SHILLONG, July 10: The Meghalaya Film Tourism Policy, 2025, which had undergone extensive consultations with over 200 stakeholders, received the Cabinet’s nod after inputs were incorporated into its final draft.
The policy seeks to harness Meghalaya’s growing appeal as a filmmaking hub in the Northeast by providing a robust incentive structure and institutional support. A dedicated Film Facilitation Cell has been set up, drawing representatives from the Tourism, Arts and Culture, and Information and Public Relations departments, among others.
This Cell will serve as a single-window mechanism to coordinate all efforts aimed at projecting Meghalaya as a leading destination for filmmakers in India and abroad.
To make the state more attractive for the film industry, the policy will offer financial incentives across various categories. These include substantial subsidies for national and international films that promote Meghalaya and carry out a significant portion of their production within the state, as well as support for local language films, television serials, web series, original OTT content, documentaries and short films.
Taking to social media, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma wrote, “National & International Films: Up to Rs 1 crore or 25% of production cost for films (in national or international languages) promoting Meghalaya tourism, with 75% of shooting done in the state. Local Films: Rs 50 lakh subsidy for Khasi, Pnar, and Garo language films, available once every two years per filmmaker.”
“TV & OTT Content: Subsidies available for production of TV serials, web series, and original OTT shows made in Meghalaya. Documentaries & Short Films: Grants provided for films shot in Meghalaya,” he further wrote.
