London, July 11: Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj paid a heartfelt tribute to late Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota during the ongoing third Test against England at Lord’s on Friday.
After dismissing England’s Jamie Smith in the first innings, Siraj looked skyward and formed the number “20” with his fingers—Jota’s jersey number at Liverpool—acknowledging the footballer’s tragic passing. The emotional moment was captured live and later shared on the official social media handle of Star Sports.
Siraj ended with figures of 2/85 in 23.3 overs, playing a crucial role in keeping England’s first-innings total in check.
Diogo Jota, aged 28, passed away in a car accident in Spain on July 3. His untimely death has sent shockwaves across the global football community, and Siraj’s gesture stood as a touching crossover tribute from cricket to football, uniting sports in grief and remembrance. (IANS)
