SHILLONG, July 11: The Meghalaya BJP has taken up the issue of persistent faculty shortages at the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH), which has triggered widespread student grievances.
Led by state BJP president Rikman G Momin, cabinet minister AL Hek, and state BJP chief spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang, the BJP delegation called on officials at the NEIAH to demand accountability for the prolonged delay in filling permanent teaching positions despite a recruitment advertisement issued nearly a year ago on August 24, 2023.
The NEIAH Director informed the delegation that contractual appointments are in process, with interviews completed and candidates shortlisted. He also assured that the ministry’s approval for permanent posts is being pursued and is likely to be secured within a month.
Hek also pledged to personally follow up with the central ministry to expedite the appointments and address student concerns.
The delegation reiterated its commitment to ensuring that centrally funded institutions like NEIAH function smoothly, enabling students to pursue their academic goals without disruption.
