SHILLONG, July 14: Two new livelihood projects aimed at generating employment opportunities for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) have been launched by the Blind Lead Trust (BLD), a self-sustaining organisation dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities.
The projects, which focus on soap production, are designed to provide meaningful and sustainable employment for PwDs.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, BLD co-founder and Managing Director Jitendra Dkhar shared details about the initiatives.
The first project, titled “Hope Build,” symbolises the organisation’s belief in the power of hope to strengthen their mission and uplift PwDs.
The second project, called “Hope Made,” reflects their aspiration to create soap products that people can trust and support.
BLD is implementing these projects in collaboration with the Roots to Branches Foundation, an Assam-based organization that is also helping to fund and support the initiatives.
However, he acknowledged that the projects are still in their early stages and face several challenges, particularly in scaling up operations. “We seek support from the government, NGOs, and individuals in the form of mentorship and assistance,” he appealed.
At the same time, Dkhar, who is visually impaired, cautioned the public to be wary of such scams, adding that BLD issues proper identification cards and receipts to its authorised representatives when collecting donations.
