City college secures top spot in natl Quiz

SHILLONG, July 22: St. Anthony’s College (General Stream) emerged victorious at ‘Anvesha 2.0 – 2025’ — a nationwide Quiz contest on official statistics, held at the Shillong College auditorium as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations of the National Sample Survey (NSS). The college’s Statistics stream team secured the first runner-up position, while Sohra Government College was placed second runner-up. The winning teams received cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 6,000, and Rs 4,000 respectively, along with medals and mementos.
Thirteen teams from eleven colleges across Shillong participated in the contest, which tested students on topics including the Indian economy, government policies, the National Statistics Office (NSO), and statistical systems. The quiz was conducted by Nicholas Jyrwa, a lecturer in Computer Science. The event opened with a welcome address by Assistant Director, NSO (FOD), Shillong, Dr Prabhata Das, who acknowledged the enthusiasm of participants and urged them to view such events as platforms for intellectual development and critical thinking.
