SHILLONG, July 27: The 8th Foundation Day of the Gorkha Secondary School Alumni Association (GSSAA), Upper Shillong, was celebrated with fervour at a function organised by the association’s executive wing on Sunday.
The event began with the unfurling of GSSAA’s flag by executive wing members and the school team with former MLA of Mylliem Hamletson Dohling as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Dohling emphasised the need for renovation of the school basketball ground in view of the upcoming National Games, stating that the Gorkha Secondary School can be one of the venues for the Games.
He also showed his appreciation to the fourth position holder from the school in the SSLC exams held this year, Anamika Singh, with a sum of Rs 10,000. The event was also attended by former Principal of the school, Narayan Joshi, besides special guests Nongkseh Rangbah Shnong Myrank Thangkiew, Dorbar’s general secretary Malcolm R Thangkiew, Basan Nathan Thangkiew, Rangbadong Riatsohkhlur Andrew Nongkhlaw and Senior Audit Officer, Office of the Principal Accountant general (Audit), Shillong, Uttam Rai.
The welcome address was delivered by president of the GSSAA, Dhurbalok Thapa, which was followed by a welcome dance and a welcome song. The activities report was also read out by the school Principal, Ujjal Rai.
Further in the programme, alumni of the HSSLC 1983-84 batch and the SSLC and HSSLC batch of 2025 were felicitated. A special dance was performed by Neelam and group. followed by the president of the managing committee of the school, DB Gurung’s address. The programme culminated with a vote of thanks presented by vice president of GSSA Dr Shantaram Joshi, followed by the singing of the National Anthem.
