SHILLONG: After remaining missing for more than five days, 14-year-old Chunthailiu Gangmei was recovered on Tuesday morning from Mawlai, with police suspecting it to be an alleged case of human trafficking.

The girl had gone missing from her residence at Laitumkhrah, Shillong, on March 19 following which a case had been registered at Laitumkhrah PS.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M. Kharkrang informed on Tuesday that some people after going through newspaper reports found the girl in Mawlai and called up the Officer In-Charge of Laitumkhrah PS.

“Police is investigating whether the girl was being enticed for human trafficking,” Kharkrang said, while appreciation the local dailies for their help in tracing the girl.

Police is on the lookout for a few people who might have been involved in the incident.
