Manchester, July 28: With the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy hanging in the balance at 2-1, the debate over England’s bowling line-up for the fifth and final Test at The Oval has taken centre stage. Former cricketers Stuart Broad and Nasser Hussain have voiced strong opinions in favour of resting speedster Jofra Archer, citing workload concerns and England’s long-term plans, especially with the Ashes looming in a few months’ time.
Archer, who made a much-anticipated return to the Test arena after four injury-riddled years during the third Test at Lord’s, has since bowled 88.3 overs and claimed nine wickets at an average of 28.66. Despite having had an eight-day recovery window before the fourth Test, the rigours of back-to-back matches appear to have taken a toll, prompting calls for his preservation. (Agencies)
