NONGPOH, July 30: Two brothers, who were arrested and remanded to judicial custody on suspicion of drug trafficking, have been acquitted by the court after it found no evidence against them under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The individuals, identified as Fedrick Kharkrang and Pascal Kharkrang, were arrested during a police raid in Umsning on May 2, along with a suspected drug trafficker, Wellborn Khongjoh. During the operation, police recovered 10.9 grams of heroin.
However, during the trial proceedings, the Investigating Officer informed the court that there was no substantial evidence linking Fedrick and Pascal to drug trafficking activities.
As a result, Special Judge B. Mawrie of the NDPS Court in Ri-Bhoi district ruled that the case will proceed only against Wellborn Khongjoh, while Fedrick and Pascal Kharkrang have been discharged from all charges under the NDPS Act.
