SHILLONG, Aug 3: Amid the national laurel for Garo film Rapture by Dominic Megam Sangma, Cabinet Minister Rakkam A Sangma has stated that the state has the talent to dazzle any stage or screen in the world.
Congratulating filmmaker Dominic Sangma on winning his second National Film Award, Rakkam remarked that if he were just a bit younger, he might have chosen a different path.
“If I was still young, I should have opted to be an actor,” he said. “A little younger than today, I would have become a film actor — because we have natural talent.”
The minister was full of praise for Dominic’s latest achievement — the film Rimdogittanga (Rapture), which bagged the Best Garo Film at the 71st National Film Awards. But beyond the award, Rakkam saw a bigger picture.
“This is not just about Garo Hills. This is about the state,” he said, reflecting on the wider significance of the honour. “In every field, we are second to none. It shows the talent we have — be it in film, sports, academics, or entrepreneurship.”
Gesturing to Meghalaya’s growing presence on the national radar, he pointed out that even the state’s pineapples are now making their way to Delhi, winning praise for their sweetness.
He tied this visibility to a broader trend — a state on the rise, rich in human resources and ready to shine in every sector.
“All the five-star hotels, malls, healthcare facilities — we have the resources and the potential,” he said, citing how nurses from Meghalaya are now working in countries like Japan.
“Meghalaya is growing,” he concluded, adding that Dominic’s recognition “only encourages and inspires others to do better.”
