SHILLONG: The ANVC which is currently under ceasefire has decided to play a neutral role in the Lok Sabha elections in Tura.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, ANVC publicity secretary Arist Sangma said on Thursday that the militant outfit wanted to maintain neutrality as far as the Lok Sabha poll is concerned.
While NPP leader PA Sangma is trying to come back to national politics after a gap of six years, the Congress is all out to secure the prestigious Tura seat.) No militant groups have extended any support to the political parties in Garo Hills unlike the 2013 Assembly elections. Prior to the 2013 Assembly elections, the jailed GNLA chairman Champion Sangma had come on record and said that GNLA will support the Congress.
The ANVC leader said that while the Congress has fielded a young candidate, the NPP has fielded a veteran. “We wish both of them best of luck. As an organization we stand neutral and we expect a free and fair election this time”, Sangma said.
The ANVC leader was hopeful that the new Government at the Centre, irrespective of which party heads it, would ensure final settlement of their demands.
