SHILLONG: The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Shillong rejected the bail of CMJ University vice chancellor Chandra Mohan Jha’s close aide, Dhanwan Singh Matharoo on March 26.
Matharoo who is the chairman of Apex e-Learning Bangalore had moved the bail after being remanded to 14 days police custody by the court on March 20.
CJM B Joshi however rejected the bail application of Matharoo. He will again be produced in court on April 3.
The State CID had arrested Matharoo, who is also the vice chancellor of Apex Professional University, Itanagar on March 9. He was arrested upon his arrival from Bangalore in the State capital after being summoned by the State CID.
Meanwhile, sources informed that during the interrogation, the police found out that Matharoo had been illegally operating study centres across the country under the name of CMJ University and Apex e-Learning.
“They have managed to enroll around 10,000 plus students in various disciplines. The amount collected from the students would be several crores of rupees,” sources said.
Meanwhile, sources informed that the State CID managed to detect about the illegal activities of the close aide of Jha after examining the documents which was seized from the University.
“The State CID is likely to summon other smaller agents of Jha who are operating similar study centres illegally in other parts of the State,” sources said.
When questioned about the arrest of Jha, sources said that Police are drawing an action plan to arrest Jha. “We would soon initiate the arrest since the apex court had earlier cancelled the interim order on anticipatory bail granted to Jha,” the source added.
Earlier on March 7, the Supreme Court had cancelled its earlier interim order on anticipatory bail granted to CMJ University Chancellor.
