SHILLONG, Aug 9: Residents of Lower and Upper Lumparing, who have relied on distant facilities for even the simplest medical needs for years, are set to be benefitted by the Lumparing Mini Hospital-cum-Primary Health Centre, expected to be operational by December.
The 10-bedded facility, sanctioned at a cost of Rs 4.13 crore, will cater to residents from three dorbar shnongs. Its progress was reviewed on Saturday during a joint surprise inspection led by South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai, accompanied by Health department officials and Public Works Department (PWD) representatives. Shullai said health officials had assured him that the hospital would be handed over to the local heads of Lumparing Pyllun and to the public by the stated deadline.
For many households here, healthcare is only one of the challenges. In certain pockets, the absence of motorable road access forces residents to walk considerable distances before reaching the nearest vehicle. On the same day, Shullai inspected five ongoing PWD link road projects aimed at changing that reality. Together worth Rs 7.30 crore, the roads are scheduled for completion by February next year.
He noted that their completion would greatly ease travel for those who currently rely on steep footpaths and long walks to reach basic services.
The MLA acknowledged Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and PWD Minister Prestone Tynsong for initiating multiple projects in the constituency, and thanked former Health Minister James Sangma for approving the hospital during his tenure.
