JOWAI, Aug 10: The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO), Thangrain unit, has urged the Office of the Executive Engineer of the PWD, South Shangpung Division, West Jaintia Hills, to take immediate action to repair the severely damaged road from Thangrain to Barato village.
The organisation submitted a written complaint after reportedly receiving grievances from residents who have been facing severe difficulties in commuting. The poor road condition has particularly impacted the sick, the elderly and, in extreme cases, has even forced women to give birth on the way due to delays in reaching medical facilities.
With the ongoing rainy season, large stretches of the road remain submerged in water owing to the absence of proper drainage.  Highlighting the urgency, urged that the issue be addressed without delay so that residents, especially those requiring medical attention, can access healthcare services on time.
The organisation warned that if the authorities fail to act on the complaint, it will be compelled to take alternative steps.
