Dhaka, Aug 11: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has roped in renowned English coach Julian Wood as its specialist batting coach on a short-term basis, ahead of a busy white-ball calendar that includes the Asia Cup 2025.
Wood, currently serving as the power-hitting coach for Pakistan Super League (PSL) side Multan Sultans, has been handed a three-month contract, with his first assignment being the Asia Cup in the UAE from September 9.
A pioneer in modern power-hitting techniques, Wood has previously worked with several international sides and T20 franchises, including a stint as a specialist coach with Sri Lanka Cricket. In Bangladesh, he will spend three weeks with the national side during their preparatory camp at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka before travelling with the team for the Asia Cup.
BCB officials are confident that Wood’s expertise will sharpen the Tigers’ batting firepower, particularly in white-ball formats. His role will focus on enhancing the squad’s shot range, power generation, and overall hitting efficiency — crucial skills as the team eyes both the Asia Cup and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, with the former serving as a key tune-up event.
While his tenure beyond the Asia Cup has not been confirmed, Wood hinted at further discussions with head coach Phil Simmons regarding an extended role. “From what I’ve heard, I’ll be in Dhaka in August for three weeks leading into the Asia Cup. What happens after that is up to the board,” he said.
This will not be Wood’s first taste of Bangladesh cricket — he previously worked in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) with the Chattogram Challengers. (Agencies)
