SHILLONG, Aug 14: A play staged on the life of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose enthralled Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday, who used the example of Netaji in exhorting people to draw inspiration from his indomitable.
Hosted at the auditorium of DGAR, Laitkor, Shillong, by the Rastriya Jagriti Sansthan and the PA Sangma Foundation, the play titled ‘Rashtraputra’ was performed by the theatre group of Netaji Institute of Skill Development, which apart from imparting skills aims to build character and patriotism among the youth, uses theatre to bring to life the struggles and ideals of India’s national heroes.
The chief minister remarked that witnessing such a play on the eve of the 79th Independence Day of India makes it even more meaningful. “Plays can bring History to life making it more engaging especially for the youth,” he said. “Let us draw inspiration from the indomitable spirit of Subhas Chandra Bose.”
Sangma said that the stories of our freedom fighters and their life should be portrayed to educate today’s youth on the sacrifice and commitment they had for the nation. “Our freedom is hard earned and we should always be reminded of the sacrifices of our leaders, for whom we live an independent life today,” he said.
Later, the chief minister felicitated the actors of the play.
The event was organised under the aegis of Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General Assam Rifles and sponsored by the PA Sangma Foundation and Rashtriya Jagriti Sansthan. A special evening show was also organised for the jawans of Assam Rifles and their families.
