Guwahati: On his arrival at the airport here after submitting the ULFA’s charter of demands to the Government of India in New Delhi, ‘chairman’ of the ULFA pro-talks faction Arabinda Rajkhowa on Sunday night said that it was the last opportunity for the people of Assam to protect their identity and called upon his detractors (the anti-talks faction) to refrain from criticising the peace process and instead extend constructive cooperation to it.
Addressing a gathering of a large number of people who were waiting outside the airport here to welcome the team of ULFA leaders, Rajkhowa said, “The charter of demands that we have submitted to the Government of India in presence of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will form the basis of future peace negotiation.”
In obvious reference to criticism by the anti-talks faction about making compromise on aims and objectives of ULFA in the charter of demands Rajkhowa said, “The issue of sovereignty of Assam underlies in the charter of demands that has been submitted to the government of India and people of Assam should remain united at this crucial juncture to get a good deal of the negotiation with the Government of India.”
