Admin seeks papers from MTC

SHILLONG: A day after NPP lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma accusing him of violating model code of conduct by using helicopter service meant for people solely for election purposes, the Election department has sought a clarification from the Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) in this regard

Speaking to The Shillong Times on Tuesday, Returning Office for Tura Parliamentary Constituency Pravin Bakshi said, “We have written to MTC to provide us all the details of booking days and cash vouchers.”

Dr Sangma had reportedly booked the daily Pawan Hans Daupin N3 helicopter for election campaign for seven days from March 25 to April 1.

According to Bakshi, the choppers were booked without the information of the District Election Officer though the intimation might have been given to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).

According to Chapter VII (1) (b) of the model code of conduct “Government transport including official aircraft, vehicles, machinery and personnel shall not be used for furtherance of the interest of the party in power or a candidate”
