SHILLONG, July 11: The Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO) has sought the immediate intervention of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and the Health department to address a severe shortage of doctors and nurses at the Umsning Community Health Centre (CHC).
CSWO secretary Christabell Wanniang told reporters that the facility is currently operating with only one doctor and one nurse on duty. This shortage makes it nearly impossible to manage emergency cases and the Outpatient Department (OPD) simultaneously, leading to patients waiting hours for treatment.
The organisation stated it has received numerous complaints from local residents.
While the state government has previously acknowledged difficulties in recruiting and retaining professionals, vacancies at peripheral health facilities remain a persistent challenge.
