Guwahati, Aug 26: Elections to 40 constituencies of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) will be held on September 22, 2025, while counting of votes will take place on September 26, 2025, the Assam State Election Commission here announced in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The Commission has fixed September 2, 2025 as the last date for filing nominations while the scrutiny of nominations will take place on September 4, 2025.
The last date for withdrawal of nominations has been fixed on September 6, 2025, while the election process will be completed before September 28.
As many as 26,57,937 persons (male: 13,23,399; female: 13,34,521 and others:17) are eligible to vote in the BTC elections.
“The Commission has decided to continue the process of addition of new electors till the last date of filing of nominations, as per rules, subject to the ongoing summary revision exercise of the Election Commission of India (ECI),” it said in the statement.
There has been an increase of 11.35 percent voters this year from that of the BTC elections in 2020, when there were 23,87,046 voters.
Besides, votes will be cast across 3359 polling stations, which is an increase of 6.77 percent from the BTC elections in 2020, when there were 3146 polling stations.
Notably, 30 constituencies out of the 40 are reserved for Scheduled Tribes, five for non-Scheduled Tribes while the remaining five constituencies are in the open category.
“The Model Code of Conduct shall come into force with immediate effect in the respective areas covered by the Bodoland Territorial Council. Assam State Election Commission has been following the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) along with related guidelines in the document titled Manual on Model Code of Conduct (Document 21),” the Commission stated.
The elections are poised to be a triangular contest between the BJP, Pramod-Boro-led United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) and the Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).
