SHILLONG, Sep 5: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has suggested a tripartite discussion to resolve the ongoing crisis in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
BJP Meghalaya general secretary Wankitbok Pohshna on Friday said the party is looking forward to a quick solution to the problems in GHADC while calling upon the Centre, the state government and the GHADC to sit across the table and hold discussions to end the crisis.
He also expressed concern over the prevailing situation in the GHADC.
It may be mentioned that the state government’s decision to intervene and pay the salaries of the ADCs from November has also backfired, with many viewing the move as an infringement on the Council’s autonomy.
Meanwhile, the party leadership declined to comment on the recent verdict of the High Court of Meghalaya in the infamous Education Scam, where Cabinet Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and others were acquitted.
The BJP, however, was full of appreciation for the recent GST reforms, terming them a transformative step.
Pohshna said the GST reforms are not election-oriented but were adopted after years of discussions involving the Council of Unions as well as the States.
