SHILLONG, Sep 10: The state government has invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the establishment of educational institutions and skilling hubs in Knowledge City, Mawkhanu.
According to the New Shillong Township Development Agency (NSTDA), the Meghalaya government has initiated the development of New Shillong City in a phased manner, comprising the Administrative City and the Knowledge City.
The EOI noted that the presence of premier institutions such as the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) and National Law University (NLU) in New Shillong City has created a strong academic foundation, positioning the area for further institutional expansion.
Building on this foundation, 807 acres have been earmarked for the development of the Knowledge City in Mawpdang-Mawkhanu. The project aims to establish a nationally recognised hub for academic excellence, research and innovation.
A detailed master plan is currently under preparation to guide this development.
To realise this vision, the state government, through the NSTDA, has invited EOIs from reputed national and international educational institutions to set up campuses and skilling hubs in Knowledge City.
The government will support selected proposals through land allocation and Viability Gap Funding (VGF) under a challenge-based model. Proposals will be evaluated on merit, institutional capacity and alignment with the objectives of Knowledge City.
The evaluation will be carried out by a Selection Committee chaired by the Commissioner and Secretary of Urban Affairs department, with members including the Director of School Education and Literacy, Executive Director of the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society, Director of Urban Affairs, and the Superintending Engineer of NSTDA.
