Veteran badminton tourney kicks off in Jowai

JOWAI, Sep 12: The West Jaiñtia District Badminton Association (WJDBA) on Thursday inaugurated the Open To All Master (Veteran) 2025 badminton tournament at the Seiñraij Indoor Hall, Tpep-Pale, Jowai.
The event was formally declared open by former WJDBA president, J M Pohsngap.The competition, exclusively for male veteran shuttlers, has drawn enthusiastic participation from across Meghalaya as well as neighbouring Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Players are competing in different age-group categories, including 75+ (minimum age 35), 85+ (minimum age 40), 95+ (minimum age 45) and 105+ (minimum age 50). The opening day witnessed as many as 34 matches, while the finals, set for September 13, will feature 12 exciting contests to decide the champions.Among those present at the inaugural function were WJDBA president Dawanroi Pyrbot, publicity secretary Teddy Laloo, veteran player Sunday Tariang and other officials of the association.
The tournament not only celebrates sporting excellence but also underscores the passion and camaraderie that veteran shuttlers continue to bring to the court.
With the finals set to showcase 12 thrilling encounters on Saturday, badminton enthusiasts in Jowai can look forward to an exciting culmination of the sporting event that honours competitive spirit in the region.
