Agartala: Border Security Force (BSF) sought support from it’s Bangladesh counterpart BGB on Thursday following a firing incident of a group of Bangladeshi criminals in Indian Territory in Dhanpur on Wednesday.
The cross border movement of armed criminals despite strong security surveillance along Indio-Bangladesh border owing to general election has raised several questions of border management in both sides.
Though the firing could not kill anybody, the criminals had allegedly been involved in physical assaulting the Indian villagers for about 15 minutes times after crossing border and even the incident was on the border itself there was no present of any security man, villagers informed police.
Police said Indian villager Abdul Razzak (65) and his son Md Safique (25) were injured in the incident and bullet of the Bangladeshi miscreants was misfired and added that a group of Bangladeshi miscreants led by Meer Hussain (25) of Ekdalia, Bangladesh entered into Tarapukur with fire-arms and fired at Safique over a scuffle.
However, Safique escaped unhurt. The fire was confirmed to have been discharged from across the unfenced Indo-Bangla border.
The miscreants attacked the locals with sharp edged weapons, but were soon outnumbered by villagers. Officials of BSF and BGB held a flag meeting over the incident to ease the tension. BSF however, claimed after the incident they had further intensified strength to prevent Bangladeshis.
This is the second incident of Bangladeshi intrusion and attack on Indian villagers in West Tripura in a week. Earlier, on April 5 last, a group of Bangladeshi miscreants attacked Paharmura under Khowai Police Station at night but irked villagers of lynched three Bangladeshi cattle lifters to death. (UNI)
