SHILLONG, Sep 22: The Synjuk Ki Rangbah Kur Ka Bri U Hynñiewtrep will convene its Third General Dorbar at Dinam Hall, Jaiaw Pdeng, on September 27.
The Synjuk has urged all clan heads from every kur across the Khasi-Jaintia Hills to participate in the gathering and deliberate on crucial issues concerning the preservation of the matrilineal system inherited from the mother.
President of the Synjuk, RL Kharpran, outlined the organisation’s objectives, stressing the importance of raising public awareness on safeguarding indigenous customs and traditions. He added that Khasi chieftains — the Syiem and Lyngdoh of all the Hima, along with the Dolloi of the Elaka in Jaintia Hills — have been invited to share their reflections on the theme.
Meanwhile, Synjuk member Raphael Warjri spoke on the foundations of clan lineage in Khasi society, highlighting the profound wisdom of the ancestors in establishing kinship through the mother, the bearer and nurturer of humanity.
Other clan leaders and executive members, including vice president P Syiem, Will Shylla, and J L Khongshei, senior members of the mother institution, echoed the collective call to resist attempts to alter or weaken the roots of Khasi society and to oppose practices that undermine ancestral values.
The gathering, they affirmed, will stand united with one common purpose, i.e. to urge clan elders of every kur across the Khasi-Jaintia Hills to join the Third General Dorbar of the Synjuk Ki Rangbah Kur and deliberate deeply on the theme:
“We shall preserve the heritage of our forefathers; we shall awaken and uphold our nation.”
