SHILLONG, Sep 26: The High Court of Meghalaya has recalled its August 30, 2025, order on stray dogs and ordered that the records of a PIL filed in connection with the matter be transmitted by the High Court’s Registry to the Registry of the Supreme Court.
A division bench, comprising acting Chief Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh, issued the order during the hearing of the PIL on Friday. The bench heard Advocate General A Kumar and senior advocate K Paul who appeared in person.
“By the instant miscellaneous application, the applicant has sought modification of the order dated 30.08.2025 passed by this Court in the main PIL (PIL No.4 of 2024), whereby this Court had directed that the matter be retained before this Court in view of the peculiar nature of the case,” the bench said in an order.
During the hearing, the Advocate General drew the court’s attention to an order of the Supreme Court issued on August 22, 2025. It was directed that the writ petitions of all High Courts on the issue of stray dogs would stand transferred to the Supreme Court for analogous consideration along with the main matter.
He submitted that in view of this direction, the PIL, along with the records, may be transferred to the Supreme Court and the order dated 30.08.2025 be modified accordingly.
Paul concurred to the submissions made by the Advocate General. S Dey, counsel who was present on behalf of two respondents, also supported the Advocate General’s submissions.
Noting the submissions and the Supreme Court’s directions, the bench recalled the High Court order, with a direction to transfer the records of the PIL to the apex court at the earliest. The PIL was also disposed of.
