UNITED NATIONS, Sep 27: India has asserted that Pakistan’s military “pleaded” for a cessation of hostilities during Operation Sindoor and reiterated that there is no room for third-party intervention in India-Pakistan matters.
The remarks were made by Petal Gahlot, First Secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, during a Right of Reply at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).
Gahlot’s response came after Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his UNGA address, praised former U.S. President Donald Trump for helping avert war between the two nuclear-armed nations and claimed Trump deserved a Nobel Peace Prize. Sharif also expressed Pakistan’s willingness for a “composite, comprehensive and result-oriented” dialogue with India while criticizing New Delhi’s handling of Kashmir.
Gahlot accused Sharif of delivering “absurd theatrics” and glorifying terrorism, which she said remains central to Pakistan’s foreign policy. She stressed that the understanding on ceasefire came through direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations of both nations, not through external mediation.
Operation Sindoor was launched by India on May 7 in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians. The operation targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. India has consistently opposed international involvement in bilateral issues with Pakistan. (PTI)
