MAWKYRWAT, Sept 26: Unknown miscreants, on Friday morning, set ablaze a hatchback owned by Ferdinance Syiemiong, the acting Syiem of Hima Nobosohphoh Syiemship, while it was parked on the roadside in Rangblang Pombriew village, 25 km from Mawkyrwat in the South West Khasi Hills district.
The car was a Maruti Alto bearing the registration number ML-05-M-3148.
The local people said that the incident took place at around 2 am, but no one knows how many miscreants were involved or how and why they set the vehicle on fire.
Speaking to media persons, Syiemiong said this was the second time that unknown miscreants attacked his vehicle.
He said that in the first incident last month, the miscreants broke the windows of the vehicle and pushed the vehicle into a forest, causing minor damage. This time, they almost reduced the vehicle to ashes.
Syiemiong urged those who committed the crime to come forward and talk to him if they have any issues, and avoid damaging his property.
Sources said that the acting Syiem filed an FIR at the Mawkyrwat Police Station against unknown miscreants and requested the police to investigate and arrest the culprits. In the FIR, he stated that he had no quarrel with anyone, and therefore, it is difficult for him to suspect anyone.
South West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, B. Jyrwa, said that an investigation into the incident has started, but no one has been arrested yet. Asked whether the miscreants used a petrol bomb to burn the vehicle, the SP said they have not been able to confirm.
