Agartala: To ensure foolproof security along the apparently peaceful Indo-Bangla border, as many as 81 Composite BOPs would come up in Tripura by 2017.

Out of total sanctioned, a total of 17 Composite BOPs would be established in the state’s eastern border considering the security reasons. The state’s eastern border includes Kanchapur, Raishyabari, Ganganagar, Chamanu, Gandcherra and Korbok.

According to intelligence inputs, militants are still active just outside the state’s eastern border and their presence across the border obviously poses security threat. As per the inputs, the NLFT has 14/16 hideouts in Bangladesh.

Plots for setting up 17 Composite BOPs have already been acquired and work would start after receiving final clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

A total of 22 Composite BOPs have already started functional while some more such posts are in the pipeline, said a top BSF official of the Tripura Frontier who doesn’t wished to be quoted.

The state which shares 856- km Indo-Bangla border has 245 BOPs to guard the state’s borderline. Facilities like dedicated living rooms for jawans, company commander, helipads, generator room, high-tech communication gadgets and erection of barbed wire as defence structure.

The Indo-Bangla border in Tripura Frontier is expected to get completed by 2017 as planned by the MHA.

So far, 80 percent of border has been fenced and works are in progress in the remaining portion.

“There are some patches where barbed wire fencing is yet to get completed due to various reason. As for example, of the total 80 km international borderline in Sonamura, around 8-km is yet to be fenced. Mainly local problems often come on the way of erection of barbed wire fencing in some vulnerable areas”, said the BSF official.

Keeping in mind of the complex picture in Sonamura border, the BSF authority has already deployed women personnel to help its male counterpart in handling trouble in border areas, he added.
