Shillong, Sep 30: The Department of Tourism and Travel Management of ICFAI University Meghalaya commemorated World Tourism Day by organising a special programme in Mawlyndep village, Ri-Bhoi district, in collaboration with the India Tourism Shillong, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and the village administration.
The event saw participation from university students, villagers, as well as the Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr. Alicia Gatphoh, Village Head, J Kharbuki, and B Jason Sawkmie Mawlong, who served as the chief guest for the occasion.
The programme included insightful discussions on tourism by Ian A Lyngdoh, who has extensive experience in global tourism, and Sambor Surong, President of the West Jaintia Hills District Adventure Sport and Mountaineering Club.
The programme also featured interactive activities and cultural performances organised by the university students, including a special song performance by Judy H. Syiemiong, a resident of the village.
Towards the conclusion of the programme, village-level initiatives, including participation in the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign and activities marking NSS Foundation Day, were carried out by the university students.
