U-12 Grassroot football tourney concludes in Ampati

Ampati, Oct 3: The South West Garo Hills District witnessed an exciting finish to the Under-12 Grassroot Football Tournament 2025, which came to a close on Thursday at Ampati.
Organised by the District Sports Office, the tournament drew participation from 24 grassroots centres across the district—12 teams in the boys’ category and 12 in the girls’ category—highlighting the growing enthusiasm for football at the junior level.
In the boys’ section, Zikzak Grassroot Centre lifted the champions’ trophy, while Betasing Grassroot Centre secured the runners-up position. In the girls’ category, Babelapara Grassroot Centre clinched the title, with Betasing Grassroot Centre once again finishing second.
Individual honours went to Brendo Aga D. Sangma, adjudged the best player among the boys, and Radime G. Momin, who stood out in the girls’ category.
The closing ceremony was graced by District Sports Officer S. M. Marak, who distributed certificates and prizes to the winning and runner-up teams, encouraging the young footballers to continue pursuing the sport with dedication.
The event not only celebrated the spirit of competition but also reaffirmed the district’s commitment to nurturing talent from the grassroots level.The tournament, marked by spirited performances and overwhelming participation, once again underlined football’s popularity in the Garo Hills and the potential of its budding players.
